Swim Starters
Accompanied by an adult, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention and the importance of supervision around water.
STAGE A: WATER DISCOVERY
Children ages 6 months-1 year with an adult.
Prerequisites: be at least 6 months old by the first day of class.
Skills learned at this stage:
- blow bubbles
- front and back tow with assistance
- water entry and exit
- front and back float with assistance
- roll with assistance
Water Discovery and Water Exploration classes may be taught together. Formerly Goldfish.
STAGE B: WATER EXPLORATION
Ages 1-2 years
Prerequisites: be at least 1 year old by the first day of class.
Skills learned during this stage:
- blow bubbles
- water entry and exit
- front and back tow with assistance
- front and back float with assistance
- roll with assistance
Water Discovery and Water Exploration classes may be taught together. Formerly Goldfish.
STAGE C: WATER INDEPENDENCE
Ages 2-3 years
Prerequisites: Completion of Stage B: Water Exploration prior to Stage C is recommended. Child must be able to stand in the shallow end of the pool at 2'6". Formerly Sunfish.
Skills learned during this stage:
- submerge independently
- front and back float with assistance
- front and back glide with assistance
- roll assisted
- jump in with assistance
